Match organizers called stumps early because the bad weather, which had begun early in the morning, showed no indications of abating. It remains to be seen whether this would significantly affect the test match, since there was a rush of wickets on the opening day, with a total of fifteen falling.

In the last test of the series, Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat first, scoring a respectable 172 runs in the first innings. Although Mushfiqur Rahim’s 35 was the highest score, his dismissal—which made him the first batter from Bangladesh to be dismissed for obstructing the field—brought an unusual drama to the game. Rahim had already taken a defensive stance against Kyle Jamieson when all of a sudden a surge of blood caused him to handle the ball.

Bangladesh’s spinners produced an incredible recovery, lowering New Zealand to 55-5 at the close of the first day of play, despite their comparatively modest total. Mehidy Hasan, the off-spinner, led the assault with figures of 3-17, while Taijul Islam, the left-arm spinner, who had excelled in the first test, added 2–29.

Bangladesh leads the first innings by 117 runs, therefore the sides are looking forward to an early start on Friday in the hopes of better weather.

Bangladesh is aiming for a historic series triumph against New Zealand, encouraged by their maiden Test success. Day three play is scheduled to begin at 9:15 am local time. It remains to be seen whether the weather will allow for a full day of activity and if Bangladesh can take advantage of their favorable position to secure a 2-0 series victory.
